Not a Religion grew out of a simple thought: What if following Jesus isn’t really about “religion” at all?

The word religion can bring to mind churches, traditions, rules, ceremonies, denominations, and things people believe they’re supposed to do. Those things can have their place—but none of them, by themselves, are the heart of the Christian faith.

The heart of it is a relationship.

Jesus isn’t distant. He isn’t a system to figure out or a checklist to complete. He is someone who knows us completely, meets us where we are, hears the imperfect prayer, and reaches for us when we can’t reach Him.

That’s where this song came from.

You don’t have to find the perfect words. You don’t have to clean yourself up first. You don’t have to understand every theological question before you come to Him.

You simply come.

And somewhere along the way, faith stops being something you merely believe about God and becomes a life you live with God.

That’s the secret behind Not a Religion:

It’s not about knowing religion.
It’s about knowing Him.

“Do I know Him?”
