Sickle

The Story Behind the Song

“Sickle” was inspired by Jesus’ Parable of the Wheat and the Weeds in Matthew 13. In the parable, wheat and weeds grow together in the same field until the time of harvest. Jesus later explains that “the harvest is the end of the age” (Matthew 13:39).

The image of the sickle is a powerful reminder that the harvest will eventually come. We go about our lives making plans for tomorrow, often forgetting how temporary this life really is. None of us knows when our time on earth will end—or when God’s appointed time will come.

Jesus said:

“Let both grow together until the harvest. At that time I will tell the harvesters: First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles to be burned; then gather the wheat and bring it into my barn.”

“Sickle” isn't intended to be a song of fear. It's a song about readiness. Jesus' parable reminds us that there will be a harvest, and ultimately every person must answer the question: Where do I stand with Christ?

For those who belong to Him, the harvest is not simply an ending. It is a gathering—and the beginning of eternity with Him.
